Depart from your hotel or riad in Marrakesh at 8:00 AM, and journey across the High Atlas Mountains. You'll have opportunities to stop at panoramic viewpoints to take photos. Your first scheduled stop is at the Kasbah of Telouet, once the palatial residence and headquarters of the powerful Glaoui tribe. Enjoy a leisurely lunch here before continuing through the Oumila Valley. The route then leads to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco's oldest and most famous Kasbah and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Spend the night in a riad here, or alternatively, continue 30 kilometers to Ouarzazate for your overnight stay.
After breakfast, you'll set out towards the Dades Gorge, passing through the Skoura Oasis, where ancient kasbahs, some in ruins, stand among the palm trees. The route continues through Kela’a M’gouna, the Valley of Roses, famous for its Rose Festival in May. Here, you'll stop to see the locally made cosmetic products from the valley's abundant flowers, renowned throughout Morocco. Next, you'll take an off-road route to better appreciate the landscape. Along the way, you'll stop at caves used by passing Berber nomads and share a glass of tea with them. Continue to the Dades Gorge for lunch. Spend the afternoon walking in the valley, relaxing, strolling by the fields and gardens, or enjoying tea with a Berber family.
After breakfast, the journey continues a short distance to Tinghir and the striking Toudgha Gorges, where you can take a short walk to admire the steep gorge walls and the narrow expanse of sky above. From there, travel to the Chebbi dunes via Tinjdad and the Oasis of Tafilalet near Erfoud, known for its Date Festival, and Rissani, the seat of the Alaouite family, the current royal family of Morocco. Between Tinjdad and Erfoud, stop to explore the fascinating underground water canals, which stay cool and prevent evaporation, providing vital irrigation. In Erfoud, visit the workshops where thousands of fossils are crafted into various artifacts. Enjoy lunch in a Berber village along the way. Upon arrival at the bivouac, you'll be welcomed with a glass of tea before taking a camel ride to watch the sunset from the top of the dunes. End the day with dinner and a night in a nomad tent at the foot of the dunes.
Wake up early to witness the breathtaking spectacle of the sunrise, with the mesmerizing colors of the dunes and the enchanting play of shadows. Journeying westward to the Dra’a Valley, pass through the villages of Tazzarine (featured in the film ‘Babel’) and N’Qob, where a delicious lunch awaits. In the afternoon, continue the journey to Tanasikht, following the ancient caravan route, until reaching the Dra’a Valley. Here, discover the lush landscape filled with towering palm trees and ancient kasbahs, arriving at Agdez where you'll spend the night in a charming kasbah.
After breakfast, seize the opportunity to explore the Tamnougalte Kasbah, the oldest in the Dra'a Valley and often regarded as the most fascinating. Some parts are still inhabited, while others have started to crumble over time. Follow the ancient caravan route to Zagora, tracing the footsteps of historical travelers. The journey then continues on paved roads to M’hamid village, marking the transition from paved roads to the Sahara Desert. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at a riad nestled in a picturesque garden filled with palm trees and a refreshing swimming pool. In the afternoon, venture towards the Erg Chagaga dunes (300m) with a 60km off-road adventure. Along the way, encounter various desert landscapes such as 'erg', 'reg', 'hammada', and oases. These dunes are located far from civilization, offering a true desert experience with overwhelming silence and vast expanses of sand. Opt for another camel ride if you desire. End the day with a delightful dinner and a night under the starry skies in a bivouac amidst the desert ambiance.
After breakfast, embark on a 90km desert journey showcasing diverse scenery, including Lake Iriqui, majestic mountains, and fossil-rich areas. Enjoy lunch at Foum Zguid, the first village after the desert, offering the opportunity to refresh with a shower. Then, head back north on paved roads, passing through Taznakht, renowned for its exquisite Berber carpets and rugs. Before reaching Ouarzazate, take a detour towards the mountains to discover the hidden oasis of Fint. This oasis, once the hub of caravan routes, served as a gathering point for goods, slaves, gold, and salt distribution across Morocco. Spend the night in a traditional auberge, immersing yourself in the authentic ambiance of this historical site.
After breakfast, we return to Ouarzazate to visit Kasbah Taourirt, formerly owned by the Galoui family, the Pashas of Marrakesh. Continuing northward, we stop for lunch in the mountains before arriving in Marrakesh by late afternoon.
